7 Insane (But True) Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tips

Texas Hold ‘Em is the most popular form of poker played today. Millions of people for around world log on to online poker rooms visit the casinos and set up home games every day just to play a few hands of Hold Em.

The game has changed immensely over the last couple years and has been tougher to beat. In the old days (I’m talking in the early 2000’s) anyone with a little common sense could sweep up money in the game. With the internet full of information, the players are smarter and much better than they once were.
If you’re looking to get a step ahead of the game and finally start making some money again, I have 7 amazing tips that will help you do just that.

HUD
A HUD is a term used to describe what’s called a heads up display. This display will give you all sorts of information while playing online. It tells you exactly how many hands your opponents play, how often they 3 bet, raise and much more.
A program like Poker Tracker will cost you about $70, but it’s a small investment to get all the information you will ever need.

Hand histories
To supercharge your HUD so to speak, you can buy hand histories form a site called Poker Table Ratings. For as little as a few bucks, you could have tens of thousands of hands on a player in seconds. It’s almost like you were playing with them for years and picked up every tell on them in just one second.
Odd buy in amounts
Players who know the game usually buy in for the full amount every time. A good tell on players is when they buy in for unusual amounts. Usually this means they have all their remaining money in play because they lost the rest of it elsewhere. This is a good sign they are a bad player.
Software

You can buy certain programs and even find some for free that will immensely improve your game. I recommend using Sit N Go Wizard for playing sit N gos.
For a good free program, you can get Poker Stove for free. Just Google it and you will find it. It will help you learn player’s ranges and know what your chances are of making a certain hand in a given situation. This will improve your ability to determine if you made the right play or not.

 Player names
Online poker lets you have screen names that set you apart from everyone else. In my experience, anyone using a poker professional as a screen name is bad. For example:

The popular players like Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth will be common names used by bad players. It’s like when you go to a concert; you never wear the shirt of the band you are seeing, its tacky and only the ones who have no clue do it.

Opponents Cards
One of the most common mistakes made by new plays is to play their own hands. You need to be playing both yours and your opponents hands. I don’t mean looking at theirs, but you should try to figure out what they have as well.

River Cards
This last tip is a tried and true one. I have found that in low stakes poker games, whenever you are raised on the river, you are usually beat. Unless you have a very strong hand, you should always fold when raised.

Most players are too scared to bluff on the river so they simply don’t do it. If they raise, this is because they have the goods or close to it.
